Margaret Jameson Mellor was a longtime community volunteer and the great-granddaughter of George L. Joy, one of Corona’s founders. Mrs. Mellor earned a bachelor’s degree from Stanford University and a master’s degree in infant nutrition from Cornell University. She worked as nutritionist at Riverside Community College and the University of California, Riverside.
While recovering from an attack of polio in 1954, Maggie took up painting. She later started the Corona Art Association. Maggie and her husband, Corona physician Norman Mellor, were active conservationists and volunteered with the Riverside Mountain Rescue and also worked extensively with the Idyllwild Arts Association. The Mellors were both active in the Friends of the Corona Public Library and in the early development of the Heritage Room. When Maggie passed away in 1977 the family established an endowment in her honor.
